dictionary/abbreviations
i have written some of these in my second post, but as i add more posts and that post becomes less available, i would like to offer this page as a quick reference. i will make additions as i think of them and as people ask for them.
Terminology

attending - a doctor who has completed his residency, board certification, and licensing

resident - a doctor who has graduated from medical school

intern - a doctor who is in their first year of residency

scrub nurse - the person who hands the surgeon equipment and helps put sterile gowns and gloves on the people assisting in a surgery

hike/circulating nurse - the person who runs around the rooms getting stuff for the surgeon and scrub nurse

clerkship - six possible choices at neoucom: internal medicine, surgery, peds, ob/gyn, psych, family medicine

shelf - the tests taken at the end of each clerkship; national standardized test

honoring - the only way to set yourself apart from other students in medical school. there is pass, fail, and honor.
